The Young and the Restless

"I wanted movement and not a calm course of existence. I wanted excitement and danger and the chance to sacrifice myself for my love. I felt in myself a superabundance of energy which found no outlet in our quiet life"

Leo Tolstoy, "Family Happiness," as quoted in Jon Krakauer "Into the Wild".

  2. I'm thinking maybe people aren't posting comments on your blog because they feel awkward about being the first to post? In case that's the case, I'll go first.

I would like to bring to your attention that, indubitably, there are no ovens in Honiara. I'm pretty sure that people there use an earth oven to bake things. Bear Grylls had to make one on an island in the Pacific.. and that's basically the same as a Solomon Island.

In light of the above, it is clear that an oven is not an essential facility. A lot of people don't have them and get along just fine. And even if they do have one and it breaks down, they could easily construct an earth oven while theirs is repaired non-urgently.

Don't mix apples and oranges, young lady. All you'll get is a fruit salad.

  3. An earth oven. I see. Indubitably, you say. I think you are playing with fire, my young friend. Also I find it problematic that you automatically assume that those who use "earth ovens" as you persist in calling them, are indubitably satisfied with that arrangement. "Get along just fine," you say. What satisfies your associate "Bear" (if that is even his real name) may not be up to scratch for those who actually use them day in day out due to necessity. While Bear uses one for entertainment value so he may build his corporate empire, his real oven is waiting patiently for him at home in his mansion.
